Geo Darts Ideas
Danielle Lima
I am a big fan of Geo Darts and just posted in the Facebook group about how much it has helped my 4th grade daughter learn her US Geography. I've always been horrible with geography and I am now a master of the beginner US level and working on the intermediate and Europe. Looking at the comments, it gave me some ideas for if/when this game is expanded. First, for young learners, in the explore mode, let them practice their aim and actually shoot for the states. My kindergartener likes to play, but gets upset that he doesn't know where the states are yet (though he's starting to catch on from watching us). I also think giving clues would be helpful--maybe in beginner mode, you could get up to 3 clues--when my daughter and I started playing, we'd talk about things we knew about each state that could help us figure out where it would be, like the climate or the region, since she's learning about US regions in school. We also would start with a state she knew and talk about how we'd need to move north, east, south, or west to get there since she is working on cardinal directions. One other idea was to add in state trivia--maybe this could be incorporated into explore mode. I love how this game has made learning fun for my daughter and am offering to have her bring the Nex to school for indoor recess since I think both this game and QB Academy are awesome for 4th graders!!
